Within a workgroup, diversity can have both positive and negative effects on group performance. Moreover, it is expected that the positive effect of diversity on group performance depends on the extent to which diversity is managed or mismanaged within the work environment (Shore et al., 2011; Chrobot-Mason and Aramovich, 2013). Therefore, my research looks to what extent the relationship between functional diversity and group performance is influenced by climate for inclusion and information elaboration.

The aim of my research is to test three hypotheses, constituting:

H1: Climate for inclusion will moderate the relationship between functional diversity and information elaboration such that higher levels of information elaboration will be experienced in functional diverse groups that enjoy highly inclusive climates compared to functional diverse groups with climates that are not as inclusive.

H2: Information elaboration enhances group performance.

H3: When there is a climate of inclusion, functional diversity is more likely to have positive effect on group performance through information elaboration
